cegid fraith f (plural cegidau brith or cegidau brithion)

  1. a spotted woodpecker (Picidae), e.g. great spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos major), middle spotted woodpecker (Dendrocoptes medius), lesser spotted woodpecker (Dryobates minor)[1]

Notes

edit

Identified as spotted woodpecker in the Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru,[1] which is ambiguous with respect to species. Y Bywiadur records cegid without qualification as referring to a great spotted woodpecker.[2]
