Etymology edit

From Old Swedish dymbilvika. By surface analysis, dymmel +‎ vecka. The name comes from the tradition in Scandinavia to replace metal clappers in the church bells with dowels in order to give them a more muted sound. Cognate with Icelandic dymbilvika, dymbildagavika, Danish dimmeluge.

Proper noun edit

dymmelveckan c (genitive dymmelveckans)

  1. (dated) Holy Week (the week leading to Easter Sunday)
