The sloping topography of the site also allows regenerative braking to charge the batteries as the locomotives run downhill towards the exchange sidings. Around 80% of braking is done by the electric dynamic brake, rather than traditional tread brakes. However, all the hard work is done heading uphill with loaded flask trains.
