  Chitinase A (so-called VhChiA) is an endolytic enzyme responsible for the breakdown of insoluble chitin chains into small, soluble chitooligosaccharides [8 ,42 ], while chitoporin (so-called VhChiP), a sugar-specific porin located in the outer membrane of the bacterium, is responsible for chitooligosaccharide uptake [6 ,7 ].
