From Vulgar Latin scarabaius, from Latin scarabaeus (beetle), from Ancient Greek κάραβος (kárabos, beetle). Maybe due to Spanish influence, with a wrong correction of the Spanish word and the phoneme /x/.

edit
  • IPA(key): /eskaɾaˈba(i̯)ʃo/
