Dutch edit

Etymology 1 edit

Blend of flink (brave, showing no pain or fear) +‎ links (left, leftist). The use of the word flink here refers to the fact that generally the "right-wing" policies adopted by parties characterized as flinks are those that involve "tough measures" on points where the left is often considered too soft, indecisive or naively idealistic by critics, such as crime or immigration. Popularized in the 90s.
