Notes
edit⟨ch·⟩ and ⟨j·⟩ (likewise ⟨g·⟩) are used to indicate [ʃ] and [ʒ] in words that have these sounds in all or nearly all dialects. Such words are generally borrowed from French. The interpunct, which is optional, is intended to distinguish the preceding graphemes from the ⟨ch⟩ and ⟨j⟩ (likewise ⟨g⟩ before front vowels) used in native words to indicate a variety of sounds that vary by dialect, for instance [t͡s] and [d͡z] or [θ] and [ð].
