itacism
English edit
Etymology edit
Named after iotacism, shifting the pronunciation of the name of letter η (eta) from /ɛːta/ to /ita/ in Greek.
Noun edit
itacism (countable and uncountable, plural itacisms)
- Alternative form of iotacism

- At [Revelation] 2:25 the family reading is αχρις ου ανοιξω [until I open], instead of αχρις ου αν ηξω [until I come]. Not only is ανοιξω unintelligible here, but it is a transparent itacism οι for η.
