Etymology

edit

From Proto-Nuristani *kr̥ttā (beam, timber) (with retention of k via earlier *kr-), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *kart- (to cut), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kert- (to cut), extension of *(s)ker- (to cut). Borrowing from Kamkata-viri kaṭë (beam, timber) is excluded because of the initial vowel.

edit
  • IPA(key): /kɘˈʈɘ/ (tone class C)
