kayısı
Turkish
editEtymology
editFrom Ottoman Turkish قیصی (kaysi, kayısı) itself from Arabic قَيْسِي (qaysī, “an apricot cultivar with large size”), related to Arabic قَيْس (qays, “measurement, comparison”) look at the loanword kıyas (“"measurement, comparison"”). Alternatively, has been suggested to originate from the placename Kayseri, in the sense of "fruit produced in Kayseri".
