Etymology

edit

From Arabic لَقِيَ (laqiya, to meet). The unetymological final was triggered by the influence of q on the following vowel; compare baqa’. The etymological past participle milqi is preserved in the placename San Pawl Milqi (literally St. Paul welcomed).
