Etymology

From the multimedia fiction work Homestuck, reportedly coined from the Ancient Greek μοῖρᾰ (moîra, “lot, destiny”). In the series, moirallegience is one of four "quadrants" within the complex romance system of the alien troll species, described as being similar to the "concept of a soul mate, but in a more platonic sense," for the purpose of pacifying a partner who is dangerous.

1. (Homestuck fandom slang) A romantic partner that a person may be in a relationship with, that differs from traditional concepts of romance, based around the grounding of emotions, calming, and aid troubles with other relationships, likened to a platonic soulmate.
