English edit

Prefix edit

naphtho-

  1. (organic chemistry) Formally describing any compound in which a naphthalene molecule has been fused to another ring molecule.
  2. (organic chemistry) Used for some derivative of naphthalene.

Usage notes edit

"naphtho" can be separated from the other part of the name of the molecule with square bracketed digits and letters, to describe the position on the naphthalene, and the other ring where fusion has occurred. For example naphtho[2,3-c]thiophene indicates naphthalene is fused at two atoms numbered 2 and 3, away from the bridge.
