From an infixed form of Proto-Mon-Khmer *pɗuh ~ *pɗuəh ~ *pɗiəs; cognate with Khmer ផ្ទុះ (phtuh, to explode), Bahnar pơđôh (to explode), Pacoh padóh (to explode), Proto-Vietic *ɗoh (whence Vietnamese nổ (to explode)).
