pouvoir toujours courir
French edit
Etymology edit
Perhaps from the fable Le Lièvre et la Tortue by Jean de La Fontaine. Once the turtle is near the finish line, the hare can run all it wants, it won't make any difference (see rien ne sert de courir, il faut partir à point).
Pronunciation edit
Verb edit
- (informal) can whistle for it
- Tu peux toujours courir ! ― You can whistle for it! Think again! Dream on!
