puff pipe (plural puff pipes)

  1. (aviation) A pipe on a VTOL aircraft that expels compressed air in order to stabilize the craft.

      Basically, the Bedstead proved that stabilizing a jet-borne aircraft by means of "puff pipes" was practical and that not only was auto-stabilizing possible but that, with training, manual stabilizing could also be achieved.
