Usage notes

Use of the coordinate feminine form is discouraged in modern language.

Geiriadur yr Academi promotes söolegwr and söolegydd as Welsh terms for zoologist, marking “swolegwr etc.” as “less correct”.^[1] However, swolegwr and swolegydd are assumed normative by Geiriadur Prifysgol Cymru in its glosses on synonyms^[2]^[3]^[4]^[5] and swolegydd is the preferred term of Y Termiadur Addysg, sponsored by the Welsh government as a source of standardised terminology for use in Welsh-medium education.^[6]
