From Old Cornish scuid, from Proto-Brythonic *skuɨð, from Proto-Celtic *skēdos, cognate with Welsh ysgwydd (“shoulder”), Breton skoaz (“shoulder”), and Old Irish scíath (“wing”)).[1]
