From Proto-Semai *təbeeᵍŋ, from Proto-Aslian *təbiŋ (full), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *dpəɲ ~ *[d]pu[ə]ŋ ~ *tbiɲ ~ *tbiiɲ ~ *tbiəɲ ~ *tbəɲ (full). Cognate with Khmer ពេញ (pɨñ), Northern Khmer ปิฺญ, Mon ပေၚ် (pɔiŋ, to be full, complete), Bahnar 'bĕnh (full), Pacoh pânh (full) and Khasi tbeng (as if full).
