Noun edit

train station (plural train stations)

  1. (chiefly US) A place where trains stop for passengers to embark and disembark.

Usage notes edit

Train station now dominates in American use, and it has increased in popularity in British writing since the 1990s, but is still less common in writing than railway station. Just station is usually used in speech and is usually understood to mean one used by trains, especially for a known long distance fare.[1]

Train station is sometimes seen as an Americanism in British usage due to the term becoming popular there before Britain.[2]
