From an unattested *ulm, from Proto-Albanian *ulg(a)ma, from Proto-Indo-European *welg-. Cognate to Old High German welc (wet), Lithuanian vìlgyti (to make wet), Latvian valgums (wetness), Proto-Slavic *vьlgъkъ (wet).[1]
