      In contrast, fungi were able to degrade and metabolize the unpyrolysed pine wood rather than pyrolysed biochar probably due to the unsuitability of biochar as a substrate for fungi and/or due to no colonization of fungi on wood-derived biochar, apart from a small number of cracks within the biochar.
