Etymology edit

Perhaps a denominative, from važas (wagon, carriage) +‎ -iuoti. Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *weǵʰ- (to bring, transport).[1]

Also compare vežti (to lead, convey), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *weźtei; važioti (to cart, transport, take for a drive), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *wáźīˀtei.

  1. to go by vehicle, drive, ride
    važiuoju į universitetą autobusu.
    I go to university by bus.
