Etymology edit

From vanskapaður (malformed), with the nominalization suffix -ningur. Compare Norwegian vanskapning.

Noun edit

vanskapningur m

  1. any item that is terribly malformed, a person or animal with a congenital deformity, a freak of nature

Usage notes edit

This term may be neutral when referring to farm animals, but is derogatory in other contexts. It may for example be used to refer to statues, buildings, or pancakes that have an ugly shape. When used to refer to a person, it is either derogatory or used for self-deprecating humor.
