From Proto-Fula-Serer *gaaɓ, whence also Serer kaaɓ.[1] Cognate with Laalaa kaaɓ (cheek, jaw), Wolof kaabaab (jaw), Saafi-Saafi kaɓaɓki (cheek), Bedik ɔ-hɔɓ (cheek).
