Etymology
editEither derived directly from Arabic شَبِيه (šabīh, “similar”), or more probably with the measure of an abstract noun شَباهة (šabāha, “likeness, similarity”), which is uncommon in Arabic itself, but could easily be formed by analogy with such pairs as نَظِيف (naẓīf) ↔ نَظافة (naẓāfa).
