     El nen es trobava com el peix a l'aigua jugant i xerrant al carrer de les Cacasses, però també escoltant la xerra dels veïns i veïnes, aprenent els girs i la particular fonètica, bon tros xipella, d'aquells pobles de la vall del Corb.

     The boy found himself like a fish playing in the water and chatting in Cacasses Street, but also listening to the chat of the neighbours, learning the turns of phrase and the particular phonetics, a good bit local dialect, of those towns of the Corb valley.

Usage notes

Used chiefly in the expression moure xerra (“to have a chat”).

Attested since 1432 (jarra). From Arabic جَرَّة (jarra, “earthern receptacle”), cognate with Spanish and Portuguese jarra, Catalan gerra, French jarre, Italian giara and English jar.
