Etymology edit

The word shares the formation with κολοβός (kolobós, mutilated, docked) and σκαμβός (skambós, crooked), denoting a derivation from Pre-Greek. According to Beekes, the similarity with Lithuanian klumbas (limping) and Old English limpan (to limp) is only accidental.
