Роисся, вперде

Russian edit

Alternative forms edit

Etymology edit

A humorous misspelling of Росси́я, вперёд (Rossíja, vperjód). The first part, "Роисся", is a pun on рои́ться (roítʹsja, to swarm). The other part, "вперде", can be read as "в перде", derived in turn from перде́ть (perdétʹ, to fart). Therefore, the phrase can be read as "Rssuia is in ass" or "Rssuia is in deep shit".

This misspelling first appeared from a 2008 photo of a belt buckle. It became popular as a mockery of Dmitry Medvedev's article "Росси́я, вперёд" and the patrotic slogan "вперёд, Росси́я (vperjód, Rossíja)" (both meaning "Forward, Russia!").

Usage notes edit

Used by the Russian blogosphere to poke fun at poor social conditions, corruption, and ultranationalism in their own country; and again in 2022 by Ukrainians opposing the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Considered offensive and Russophobic by nationalist Russians, because the meme depicts Russia as a very poor country.
