Etymology edit

From Proto-Slavic *vьrťаti, an intensive fientive derivative of Proto-Slavic *vьrtъ (turn) + *-jati.

Nowadays, mostly has surpassed the earlier causative Bulgarian вратя (vratja) (from Old Church Slavonic вратити (vratiti)).
