Она́ кра́сит я́йца

Etymology

edit

Inherited from Old East Slavic красити (krasiti) from Proto-Slavic *krasiti; the original sense was “to decorate”, as in Slavic cognates like Old Church Slavonic красити (krasiti), Polish krasić, Czech krášlit, Bulgarian крася́ (krasjá), Macedonian краси (krasi).

Compare sense development to кра́ска (kráska, paint), original sense hypothesized to be “blush” or “decoration”, and to кра́сный (krásnyj, red), original sense “beautiful, good”.
