Inherited from Old East Slavic наглъ (naglŭ, “quick”), from Proto-Slavic *naglъ. Per Vasmer, cognates include Sanskrit अञ्जसा (añjasā, “soon, suddenly”), अञ्जस् (añjas, “instantly, quickly”) and Gothic 𐌰𐌽𐌰𐌺𐍃 (anaks, “suddenly”).
