Inherited from Old East Slavic щьбьтати (ščĭbĭtati), from Proto-Slavic *ščьbьtati.[1] Compare Russian щебета́ть (ščebetátʹ), Belarusian шчабята́ць (ščabjatácʹ), Polish szczebiotać, Slovene ščebetati.
