Etymology edit

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀉𑀧𑁆𑀨𑀡𑀤𑀺 (*upphaṇadi), from Sanskrit *उत्फणति (utphaṇati, springs up), from उत्- (ut-) +‎ फणति (phaṇati, goes, springs). Cognate with Marathi उफणणे (uphaṇṇe) and Punjabi ਉੱਪਣਨਾ (uppaṇnā).
