Etymology edit

From the Old Indo-Aryan roots ćāṅp˚ (= ćāp˚), via Prakrit चंपाइ (caṃpāi), from Sanskrit चपयति (capayati, to pound, knead; to cheat). English shampoo and its descendants are derived from the imperative of this verb, चाँपो (cā̃po).
