Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀢𑀡𑀽 (taṇū), from Sanskrit तनू (tanū́), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tanúHs, from Proto-Indo-European *tenúh₂s, from *tenuh₂- (body). Cognate with Avestan 𐬙𐬀𐬥𐬎 (tanu).
