Inherited from Prakrit *𑀮𑀟𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀓 (*laḍikka).[1] Related to the lexicographically-attested Sanskrit लाडिक (lāḍika, “boy, servant”), लट्व (laṭva, “dancing boy”) लट (laṭa, “fool”), and thus may ultimately come from लट् (laṭ, “to act like a child”) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-).[2] Cognate to Awadhi लड़का (laṛkā), Punjabi ਲਡ਼ਕਾ (laṛkā), Bengali লেড়কা (leṛoka).
