Derived from Prakrit 𑀲𑀸𑀳𑀼- (sāhu-), from Sanskrit साधु (sādhu). Cognate to Southern Hindko 𑅰𑅐𑅒, Nepali साउ (sāu), Bengali সাউ (śau), Gujarati સાહ (sāh), Marathi 𑘭𑘰𑘄 (sāu).
