Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀽𑀭𑀬 (pūraya), from Sanskrit पूर्ण (pūrṇa, filled, full, entire, complete, fulfilled), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *pr̥Hnás, from Proto-Indo-European *pl̥h₁nós. Cognate with Assamese পুরা, Odia ପୂରା (pura), Hindustani پورا / पूरा (pūrā), Nepali पुरो (puro), Punjabi ਪੂਰਾ (pūrā) as well as English full.

Doublet of পূর (pur), পুরা (pura), পূর্ণ (purno), পুরো (purō), পূরণ (puron), and প্রায় (praẏ).
