Etymology edit

From Sanskrit अभिषेक (abhiṣeka, abhisheka); perhaps via Old Khmer ʼabhiṣeka, ʼabbhiseka (consecration by sprinkling water; bathing (of a divinity) during worship; to consecrate, to inaugurate; etc); equivalent to Thai อภิ (à-pí) +‎ เษก (sèek). Cognate with Modern Khmer អភិសេក (ʼaʼphisaek); Lao ອະພິເສກ (ʼa phi sēk).
