Etymology edit

Originally, a word of Tbilisi vernacular. Borrowed from the synonymous Armenian ջարդ (ǰard), pronounced IPA(key): [d͡ʒɑɹtʰ], derived from the verb ջարդել (ǰardel, to break into pieces).
