prosperous; flourish

(宕昌)

Etymology edit

In PRC, the pronunciation Tànchāng was officially adopted in 2014 at the request of the locals, who insisted against the pronunciation Dàngchāng. This change is reflected in recently published Mandarin dictionaries in PRC, where Tànchāng is assigned to the modern county name (but not the ancient kingdom name, at least explicitly). The pronunciation remains unchanged in Taiwanese Mandarin, as well as in non-Mandarin Sinitic languages.

Pronunciation edit

Note: Dàngchāng — deprecated in China for the county name.
