Apparently formed of (きゅう)(じょう) (kyūjō, arched) + (そく) (soku, bundle); compare Latin fasciculus arcuatus (literally curved bundle). (This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)

      Then, connecting Broca’s area and Wernicke’s area is a bundle of interlocking neurons called the arcuate fasciculus, which form a phonological loop within working memory, supporting the linking of sounds with memories.
