Korean edit

Etymology edit

First attested as Early Modern Korean 남비 (nampi) in the Maeilsinmun (매일신문), 1898, June 2nd, borrowed from Japanese (なべ) (nabe, pot).

This form reflects a shift in pronunciation due to umlaut (regressive assimilation by the second vowel (i)). Compare now-proscribed 남비 (nambi).
