Etymology edit

Sino-Korean word from 半島, from (half) + (island). Possibly a calque of a Western word such as peninsula or Halbinsel.

  • Phonetic hangul: [(ː)]
    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
