Etymology edit

First attested in the Nammyeongjip eonhae (南明集諺解 / 남명집언해), 1482, as Middle Korean 온갓 (Yale: wonkas). From (Yale: won, “all”) + (Yale: kas, “things”).

    • Though still prescribed in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
