Originally a trademark of the Eskimo Pie Corporation for a product patented in 1922, later licensed to other companies or used as a genericized trademark.

[…] Mr. Halley, I am sure, used the trademark name Eskimo pie in error simply meaning a chocolate-covered ice-cream product.

     Velvety-smooth vanilla ice cream – made from fresh dairy cream – coated with a special blend of mouth-watering imported chocolate. That’s Eskimo Pie, the original ice cream bar.
