English edit

Adjective edit

LGB

  1. Initialism of lesbian, gay, bisexual.

Usage notes edit

  • In recent years, LGB has come to be used to intentionally exclude trans people. Sometimes this is by people who intend to exclude trans people from the queer community in general (such as the LGB Alliance), and sometimes it simply indicates that trans people are not in the group being discussed (e.g. "transphobia among cis LGB people").

Because of its associations with trans-exclusionary sentiment, employment of this term is often perceived as indicative of trans-exclusionary perspectives and is considered offensive by many. The term has also been criticized for reinforcing binary gender and sexuality, marginalizing those who fall outside the traditional understandings of lesbian, gay, and bisexual orientations.
