Etymology edit
Derived from lac (“lake”) and the name Simon. The municipality is named after a lake, which is named in turn after an inhabitant of the area of Iroquois descent, Marie-Louise Cimon.
The reserve is named after a nearby like, named in turn after either Simon Papaté (son of a high chief of the Odawa people) or after the first chief of the reserve.
