Attested as Piramide in 1838-1857. Derived from piramide (“pyramid”). Possibly named after a house with a pyramid-shaped roof.

15th century, as Pyramis, from Latin pyramis, from Ancient Greek πυραμίς (puramís). The modern form since ca. 1600 from the Graeco-Latin inflected stem (genitive pyramidis, πυραμίδος), possibly after Middle French pyramide.
